    Power Management of a Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle Based on Cycle Energy Estimation

There are many potential advantages of hybridization such as the improvement of transient power demand, the ability of regenerative braking and the opportunities for optimization of the vehicle efficiency. The coordination among the various power sources requires a high level of control in the vehicle. In order to solve the power management problem, the controller proposed in this work is divided into two levels: the upper one calculates the power that must be supplied by the engine at each moment taking into account the estimation of the energy that must be supplied by the powertrain until the end of the journey. The lower one manages the torque/speed set points for all the devices. Besides, the operation modes are changed according to some heuristic rules. Several simulation results are presented, showing that the proposed control strategy can provide good performance with low computational load

    Towards Syntactic Iberian Polarity Classification

    Lexicon-based methods using syntactic rules for polarity classification rely on parsers that are dependent on the language and on treebank guidelines. Thus, rules are also dependent and require adaptation, especially in multilingual scenarios. We tackle this challenge in the context of the Iberian Peninsula, releasing the first symbolic syntax-based Iberian system with rules shared across five official languages: Basque, Catalan, Galician, Portuguese and Spanish.     Nitric oxide in fungi: is there NO light at the end of the tunnel?

    Nitric oxide (NO) is a remarkable gaseous molecule with multiple and important roles in different organisms, including fungi. However, the study of the biology of NO in fungi has been hindered by the lack of a complete knowledge on the different metabolic routes that allow a proper NO balance, and the regulation of these routes. Fungi have developed NO detoxification mechanisms to combat nitrosative stress, which have been mainly characterized by their connection to pathogenesis or nitrogen metabolism. However, the progress on the studies of NO anabolic routes in fungi has been hampered by efforts to disrupt candidate genes that gave no conclusive data until recently. This review summarizes the different roles of NO in fungal biology and pathogenesis, with an emphasis on the alternatives to explain fungal NO production and the recent findings on the involvement of nitrate reductase in the synthesis of NO and its regulation during fungal development

    Development and experimental evaluation of the control system of a hybrid fuel cell vehicle

    This work presents the development and experimental evaluation of a Fuel Cell Hybrid Vehicle, focusing on the control system. The main objective of this paper is to present a real vehicle which has been designed in order to demonstrate the feasibility of the use of hydrogen as an energy source for automotive applications. The paper describes the components that are integrated in the vehicle and presents several experimental results obtained during normal operation. A control system is designed and tested in order to perform all the operations related to the coordinated operation of the fuel cell, the intermediate electrical storage and the power train. Its main task is to compute the power that must be demanded to the fuel cell in real time. This computation is done in order to satisfy the power demand of the electric motor taking into account the state of charge of the batteries and the operating regime of the fuel cell.     Role of the professor in times of COVID-19

    This scientific article argues how confinement due to the health crisis of COVID-19 has changed the modality of classes, showing that teachers have not been prepared for this change so suddenly. In this way, they do not know what an online class is and the benefits provided by the implementation of various technologies in the role of the teacher who is focused on the well-being of the student, both emotionally and academically. The methodology that was implemented was documentary research considering reliable and current scientific sources. The approach used was the qualitative one for the synthesis of the information. The development of the text has a deductive approach, allowing from the general to the specific. The results show the resolution of the hypothesis raised about the role of the teacher in online classes due to the pandemic. It is concluded that, if the role in class is not changed, the learning process of the students will be difficult, generating a tense class environment

    High-throughput format for the phenotyping of fungi on solid substrates

    Filamentous fungi naturally grow on solid surfaces, yet most genetic and biochemical analyses are still performed in liquid cultures. Here, we report a multiplexing platform using high-throughput photometric continuous reading that allows parallel quantification of hyphal growth and reporter gene expression directly on solid medium, thereby mimicking natural environmental conditions. Using this system, we have quantified fungal growth and expression of secondary metabolite GFP-based reporter genes in saprophytic Aspergillus and phytopathogenic Fusarium species in response to different nutrients, stress conditions and epigenetic modifiers. With this method, we provide not only novel insights into the characteristic of fungal growth but also into the metabolic and time-dependent regulation of secondary metabolite gene expression

    Evidence for an arginine-dependent route for the synthesis of NO in the model filamentous fungus Aspergillus nidulans

    Nitric oxide (NO) is a signalling molecule in eukaryotic and prokaryotic organisms. NO levels transiently boost upon induction of conidiation in Aspergillus nidulans. Only one pathway for NO synthesis involving nitrate reductase has been reported in filamentous fungi so far, but this does not satisfy all the NO produced in fungal cells. Here we provide evidence for at least one additional biosynthetic pathway in A. nidulans involving l-arginine or an intermediate metabolite as a substrate. Under certain growth conditions, the addition of l-arginine to liquid media elicited a burst of NO that was not dependent on any of the urea cycle genes. The NO levels were controlled by the metabolically available arginine, which was regulated by mobilization from the vacuoles and during development. In vitro assays with protein extracts and amino acid profiling strongly suggested the existence of an arginine-dependent NO pathway analogous to the mammalian NO synthase. Addition of polyamines induced NO synthesis, and mutations in the polyamine synthesis genes puA and spdA reduced the production of NO.     Numerical Analysis of Bicycle Helmet under Blunt Behavior

    This study evaluates various safety aspects of standardized impacts that cyclists may suffer while wearing a bicycle helmet, by combining a partially validated finite element model of the cranio-cervical region and a newly developed commercial bicycle helmet model. Under EN 1078 standardized impact conditions, the results of simulated impact tests show that the helmet can absorb 40% to 50% of the total impact energy at impact velocities above 4 m/s. Further, based on a relationship between the head injury criterion and the risk of injury from field data, the results of the simulations suggest that minor injuries may occur at impact velocities of 10 km/h, serious injuries at 15 km/h, and severe injuries at 20 km/h.
